Winter sun and surf in Taghazout

Taghazout sunset

With its laid-back surf vibes, Taghazout has a halcyon air: patina streets where the distinctively Moroccan aroma of mint tea mingles amongst the surf shops, and long sandy beaches where surfers rub shoulders with camels.

We visited at the beginning of January 2024 and the weather was a consistently glorious 25 plus degrees every day.

STAY

Taghazout beach is lined with big hotels and in the town there are lots of accommodation options ranging from affordable rentals to boutique hotels including the Munga Guesthouse, Amouage by Surf Maroc, and the Seaside Hotel.

We stayed in the family-friendly Radisson Blu Resort, Taghazout Bay Surf Village which is located at the northern end of the beach and closest to the town. The hotel has beach bungalows which are perfect for families. Its beach bar La Brisa is a beautiful place to watch the sunset with sand between your toes.

Imsouane

SURF

🌊 Taghazout really is a surfer’s paradise with dozens of surf spots to suit all levels. There’s a beginner-friendly beach break on Taghazout beach and Panorama Point at the northern end of the beach is good for intermediates. Banana Point in nearby Tamraght is also a popular spot for beginners. Experienced surfers head to the legendary Killer Point and Anchor Point.

One hour and 20 minutes’ drive north of Tagazout is Imsouane, the longest wave in Africa. We visited for the day and surfed the Bay (along with several other hundred surfers thanks to its iconic reputation). I would definitely recommend staying at least two nights here to soak up the town and surf some more. Olo Surf & Nature looked like a beautiful place to stay in Imsouane.

SKATE

🛹 Taghazout Skatepark above the town is well worth the hike whether you skate or not. It has views over the town and the ocean beyond and it’s super friendly having been created with and for the community. There’s a container selling t-shirts and you can rent skateboards from there or in the town.

If you need some help with your skills, Taghazout Skatepark holds regular lessons at the park and We Surf Skate Morocco and Wheels n Fins do surfskate lessons in Taghazout.

World of Waves Taghazout

EAT

🍽 Although a small town, Taghazout has no shortage of places to get great food – bag a table on the bustling seafront at World of Waves or Windy Bay and watch the surfers in the bay and epic sunsets.

The Kitchen Club Restaurant & Bar, Amouage, and Munga Guesthouse’s Favela Restaurant are beautiful rooftop choices and Munga also has the more casual Munga’s Kitchen downstairs.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

If yoga is your thing then there are plenty of places to stretch out including daily classes at the Roof top Yoga Shala at the Dfrost Almugar Taghazout Villa and at Surf Maroc’s Amouage Shala with sweeping ocean views.

Although there is no souk as such in Taghazout there are a nice little variety of surf shops and artisan sellers in the town. For a broader shopping experience, try the Souk el Had in Agadir, one of the biggest souks in Morocco.

You can also ride camels or quad bikes on Taghazout Beach, or head to the nearby sand dunes of Timlalin for some sandboarding.
